The IRRT® Process
Environmental Protection
Sustainability Through Recovery
The circular economy has developed rapidly in recent decades – yet the global challenges remain enormous. In many countries, for example, waste is still dumped untreated and without any precautionary measures. In contrast, the incineration of waste – technically known as »thermal treatment« – already represents a significant improvement. Nevertheless, valuable raw materials are irretrievably lost with every incineration.
A Realistic Approach for the Present
For many countries around the world, thermal treatment is the first step towards coping with the enormous and constantly growing volumes of waste. In this way, they can at least utilise the energy potential of the waste to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Even in highly industrialised countries, the economic and structural prerequisites for complex mechanical or even chemical treatment processes are often still lacking. If the incineration of waste on a large scale cannot be avoided for the time being, then we must make incineration itself more sustainable – that was our guiding principle. We deliberately wanted to create a solution that could make a real contribution directly. This is how we developed the IRRT process.
A Significant Contribution to Resource and Environmental Protection
According to the Interessengemeinschaft der Aufbereiter und Verwerter von Müllverbrennungsschlacken (IGAM) and the Interessengemeinschaft der Thermischen Abfallbehandlungsanlagen in Deutschland e.V. (ITAD), over 6,000,000 tonnes of IBA were generated in Germany alone in 2022. The IRRT® process could be used to recover not only 3,300,000 tonnes of aggregate and glass, but also a further 600,000 tonnes of metal. This total of 3,900,000 tonnes would no longer have to be landfilled and could replace an equally large amount of freshly mined raw materials. And these are just the figures for one country in one year! The potential of our process is enormous!
